Company and LLP registration is central through the MCA, but partnership, proprietorship, Shops Act, professional tax and trade licences all run through your state. Pick your state or union territory below for the exact registrations you file there, the official portals, and honest notes where a state has no single online window. All 36 covered, free to use.
How business registration works in India
Every founder deals with two layers. The central layer is the same everywhere: a Private Limited company or LLP is registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs through the SPICe+ or FiLLiP forms, and PAN, TAN and often EPFO and ESIC come bundled with incorporation. GST is central too, administered jointly with states.
The state layer is where it varies: a partnership firm registers with the state Registrar of Firms, a proprietorship is built from state registrations, and Shops Act, professional tax, trade licence, factory, fire and pollution approvals run through state portals or single windows. That is why the same business faces a different checklist depending on where it operates. Pick your state for the specifics.
💬Not sure which registrations you need, or want them filed for you? Run the free compliance mapper for your checklist, or have the filings done for you as an optional paid service. You can always use the official portals or any professional you choose. See how it works.

Registration requirements, portals, thresholds and fees vary by state and change over time. Links go to government or single-window portals we do not control; where none is verified we say so and point to the National Single Window rather than guessing. Always confirm on the official portal or with a qualified professional before acting. TheStartupsHub is owned and managed by Dave Groups. Founders never pay to read or learn here.
